Colombia

Aracely Vitoncó

THE INTERVIEW

What does coffee mean to you and your country?

For me coffee represents culture. My father is a coffee grower and I am following him, as part of a generational change, in this path that leads to development and that seeks peace for Colombia.

What is your favorite place in your country?

My favorite place is where I was born, surrounded by nature, love, tranquility, coffee, it is a memory of my childhood, where worries did not exist.

What is your history with illycaffè?

For any indigenous community like ours, the support given to us by a company like illy caffè is fondamental. Today coffee farmers face many challenges in the territories, violence, displacement, illicit crops, and these problems can only be overcome with an improvement in our coffees, modernization, and the support of commercial allies such as ASCAFÉ and illycaffè that are committed to improving the well-being of coffee-growing communities.

How does the perfect coffee grow?

Passion is what is needed in the production of a perfect coffee: you have to do things with love, starting  from the selection of a good seed to the caress of the plant, that gives love and hope to the crop, giving a high quality fruit.

How do you drink coffee?

I like freshly prepared coffee, in the morning it gives me strength and inspires me to start well the day. There is no favorite time because for me a good coffee is perfect at any time of the day.
